In case you haven’t guessed by now, my name is Ben.
I have always loved music since the first day I can remember. I grew up around music – it’s in my blood, with my Dad playing Rock and Ska music and my Poppa playing Status Quo.
During my school years, my favourite subject was always music. I learnt to play the recorder (I’m sure this was done just to wind our parents up!), piano, guitar and drums (playing in my dad’s band at one point), and even sang in the choir. Eventually achieving a degree in music.
At college, I learnt more about music which included a module on DJ’ing covering the history and technology. As part of this, I learnt to DJ using vinyl and then moved on to CDs. Not long after that, I bought my first set of decks consisting of two CD players and a small two channel mixer with inbuilt speakers. I used to make my own CD “mixtapes”.
My first proper DJ gig was my mums 40th birthday. We hired a hall and invited about 100 people. It was a nerve-wracking experience – I forgot cables and fixtures and had a few “issues” but, I got through it and packed the dance floor. I loved it and was hooked!
I used the same equipment for years and worked with my friend, Jamie (he still comes along and helps me today). We were called B & J’s Mobile Disco back then.
My first paid gig was a birthday party at Lordswood Leisure Centre through someone at work. I was terrified. I was working for people I didn’t know and I was getting paid – the pressure I put on myself was huge. But I needn’t have worried, it was a great event with loads of people dancing all night. From that one night, I was booked for about 12 events over the next year, all for the same family and mainly weddings.
I loved music, I loved DJ’ing and I was getting paid for it!
In 2014 I rebranded complete with all new equipment and focussed mainly on weddings. When I got married, I became great friends with the DJ and saw that there was so much more than just turning up and pressing play. I love meeting with all my clients, getting to know them, helping them as they go through the same thoughts we did when planning our wedding. Couples who share the same love for music as I do.
I’m now full time (at last!), solely focusing on great weddings and becoming an expert wedding DJ. I have invested in a white disco rig, which can be lit (and up-lit) in any colour that my clients desire, allowing a new generation of brides to “have their day – their way” with extras such as high powered LED uplighting, garden games, tomfoolery and various other services.
Now we’re into 2019 and my passion is at its height. I’ll never stop learning, never stop expanding, and I’ll always strive to be the best I can possibly be, to give my clients the ultimate in wedding entertainment.
